Suicide
Suicide is the ninth leading cause of death in the United States:
About 11 out of every 100,000 people kill themselves each year in the United States. This rate has been static for almost half a century.
Estimates of the total number of suicides in the U.S. each year range from 25,000 to 55,000. (Many suspected suicides are never proved.)
One out of every 10 people in the general population has at some time had suicidal feelings that he or she would label "serious."
For every completed suicide, there are between 10 and 40 attempts. (Many attempts are never reported.)
