
Shirley graduated with her bachelor’s degree from Ball State University, where she studied psychology, human development, and interpersonal relations. She attended Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne University and obtained her master’s degree in education. After receiving her associate license in Marriage and Family Therapy, she began working as a social worker and therapist on a youth unit at a psychiatric hospital and began providing therapy at Raj Clinic. She also teaches Human Service classes at Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne University.
She has been working in the mental health field in a variety of positions and locations, including in a group home as a residential counselor and at a psychiatric hospital as a caseworker, mental health technician, and as a therapist intern. She is certified in Suicide Alertness for Everyone (safeTALK), Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI), Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR), and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
